Learn more about our teams:

  • Play, Active Recreation and Sport

Supporting increased participation, focusing on tamariki (children) and rangatahi (youth). The six teams in this unit are: Play, Active Recreation, Sport Development, Tamariki, Rangatahi and Healthy Active Learning.

    Ellie Davidson

Ellie Davidson Senior Regional Play Consultant

“I advocate for meaningful play experiences that support learning, development and connection. No two days are ever the same - and that’s what I love most! What truly fills my cup is connecting with others and witnessing those ‘penny drop’ moments when people understand the depth and value of play. I thrive on the variety, shifting between roles as educator, learner and colleague. You can never stop learning, and the richness comes from those living and breathing this work every day. Seeing the impact happening across our regions gives real purpose to the work we do.”

  • Sector Engagement, Marketing and Communications

Developing a system of partner organisations to deliver our collective goals. The five teams in this unit are: Partnerships, Marketing and Communications, Conferences and Business Support, Business Capability and Major Events.

    Edmund Bartley

Edmund (Ed) Bartley: Business Capability Consultant – Technology

"My role involves providing strategic leadership to organisations in the sport and recreation sector, helping them make better decisions on all things technology. The most rewarding part is seeing their confidence grow as they find the right tools to support their goals and plan for the future."

  • Strategy, Policy and Investment

Overseeing and reporting on Sport NZ’s strategies, while advising on all matters relating to play, active recreation and sport. This business unit also handles ministerial servicing, spaces and places and cross-government relationships.

    Kenji Sawada

    Kenji Sawada: Senior Investment Advisor

“I help guide funding decisions that shape the future of sport and active recreation in Aotearoa. What makes Sport NZ different is the culture of collaboration and trust. What makes my job meaningful is knowing we’re backing organisations and initiatives that are making a real difference.”
